Gem quality Moldavites are translucent light green Tektites found in sedimentary layers exposed by erosion from the Moldau River in Bohemia, which is now a region of the Czech Republic. Laboratory analysis of Moldavites and rock samples from the Ries Crater in southern Germany confirms these Tektites are melt glass ejecta from the Ries Crater forming event almost 15 million years ago.
This specimen from the Moldau River Valley is truly a gem quality Moldavite. It exhibits a beautiful light green translucent color and wonderful flow lines. It has a most unusual bow shape and easily sits on one edge for a very impressive display.
